What you should know

Most people who study by distance learning have full or part time jobs while others are looking for jobs or in transition. Our flexible study model guarantees a rewarding experience with a range of study options that fits different people.

Our study options include interactive videos, downloadable text/eBooks and presentations, making commentary, writing essays and reports, and examinations depending on your course of study.

Ultimately, we aim to provide you with the right platform to chose what suits you best working with our highly reputable international institutional partners.

We understand that many people are not used to distance learning or its models of delivery. Therefore, we have identified various ways of supporting you on our platform. These include:

  • Independent Study Advisors –We also have established study advisors in different countries. Please contact us to request for the study advisor in your country.
  • Orientation Programme – We have made available orientation programmes before you commence your course of study. This will mostly be for longer programmes. For our short free programmes, there is always an introduction to the course of study and for longer programmes; we deliver a comprehensive orientation either via online or face-to-face.
  • Local Partner Institutions – In our core countries of operation, we have local institutional partners who provide local support in terms of infrastructure, advice and academic support where needed. Our international institutional partners are always the first point of call but contact us for advice on local support in different countries.

Our programmes are fundamentally and independently online. However, we know that many distance learners like the options of some face-to-face lessons as part of their distance learning study. You may therefore register for our optional overseas study sessions as designed in partnership with our international institutional partners. This option is provided to you at the point of registration. Please contact us for advice on this.

We give you access to an incredible portfolio of study materials as provided by our international institutional partners. These materials include a combination of online and downloadable resources provided to support your choice courses. The resources and study materials you need to complete your course is provided with every course.

You require regular access to a computer with an Internet connection to take all our programmes. Our international institutional partners provide a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) through which your programmes are delivered. You can also use mobile phones to access most of our programmes as well as facilities of local partner institutions if you do not have a computer or mobile phone or the Internet. Your computer should have a browser, word processor that reads Microsoft Word, Adobe or any other PDF reader, a video player preferable Flash media.

Depending on your course of study, you have enough time within which to complete it. Generally, you have between 3 – 9 years to complete a full undergraduate degree programme and 2-5 years for a post graduate degree programme. For doctorate degrees, this could be longer.

For postgraduate certificates and diplomas you have between 1-5 years to complete your study. We advice that you study for at least 20 – 30 hours a week to complete your course within the minimum study period.

For MOOCs, short courses and continuous development programmes, you have between one week and 3 months to complete the programme.

All courses have different numbers of modules and structures and you will be informed of this when you choose your course.

Depending on the course of study, you are assessed through various means. For undergraduate courses, you are assessed using course work, examinations and dissertation. For postgraduate courses, you are assessed using essays, project reports, course work and dissertation.

For MOOCs and short courses, you are assessed on your interaction, participation and contributions on the interactive platform.
